Sent Messages Not Saved in Sent Folder

If you are unable to save outgoing messages to the Sent folder, the Copies and Folders settings are not retained, or if you are getting an error message similar to this: "There was an error copying the message to the sent folder. Retry?"
then check the below workarounds which may resolve these issues:

There is a bugzilla report dealing with the inability to retain the Copies and Folders Setting issue:
"Mozilla doesn't save the " Copies and Folders " page in the " Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings"

In the prefs.js file, if you see this script:
instead of:
change the to the full address.

If you don't run a spamkiller, as described in the above Bug Report, but do run AntiVirus e-mail scanning, then try disabling the e-mail scanning in the AntiVirus program settings.

If still no joy, then do this:

Move any mail that might have gone to the Sent folder, and copy it to another folder. You can create a temporary folder for this purpose. Since the Sent Folder isn't working, there shouldn't be any mail in the folders, but in order to cover all the bases...

Next: close Netscape
Navigate to the Mail Account folder located here:
< path >\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\

Delete the Sent, and Sent.msf files
Netscape will rebuild these files when restarted

Open Netscape, send a message to yourself, check to see if it is saved to the Sent Folder.

If not, then do this:
Check the Account Settings for "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", and click on the "Advanced" button. Ensure that the setting is set to the Default SMTP server.

Remove any duplicate entries, including any blank spaces above, or below the default SMTP server listing. If there are blank entries, then delete them.

Also take a look at the prefs.js file.
user_pref("mail.smtpservers", "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1,smtp2");

Remove the duplicates in the "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1,smtp2", string so it would become:
user_pref("mail.smtpservers", "smtp1,smtp2");

Before editing the prefs.js file, ensure that Netscape is completely shut down (including Quick Launch) and that you have made a backup copy of the prefs.js file.

As a last resort: Create a New Profile.

Once you are up and running, make a backup copy of the Profiles folder, then take a look here:
